DKNY Women
The world of women fashion is predominantly ruled by talented men who have perfected every nuances of the female body and how to set it off to perfection. However, such is not always the case, since there are a handful of women who always displayed their own brand of creative genius that propelled them to penetrate the cutthroat world of couture fashion.
One of the exceptional female fashion designers of all time is Donna Karan, who is known to be quite passionate in everything she does. According to her, designing is her own personal expression of who she is as a woman, along with the myriad of complications, emotions and feelings that are reflected in all her designs. DKNY, which stands for Donna Karan New York, bears the name of the chief designer who have launched herself into the world fashion for women with such zest that consistently stirs interest and appeal among many fashion aficionados and discerning elite.
The DKNY clothing company was founded in 1984, and her first foray into the fashion world was initially concentrated in meeting the challenge of designing clothes ranging from the simple lines of bodysuits to the intricately hand-painted devore dresses. Whatever type of design, one of the apparent attributes often seen in all DKNY women clothing line is the careful attention to the body details, a combination of a sensual expression and the comfort in unhampered body movement.
The main concept behind the DKNY women collections is fundamentally based in seven simple clothing pieces that can be mixed and matched with other items that can be worn from day and evening, season after season, both weekday and weekend. Among the quintessential hallmarks of the DKNY women merchandise include leather, black cashmere, molded fabrics and jersey stretch, along with other silhouettes that easily wraps and sculpts the feminine body. With DKNY Women, the focus here is not just merely about the clothes, but more importantly creating clothes that can best keep up with the various demands of the feminine lifestyle.
Karan also launched her own designer jeans, which was initially encouraged by her search for that perfect pair of jeans for her daughter, Gabby. The DKNY jeans line exudes fashion forward styles with an urban mindset. The immediate response was quite overwhelming and soon after other brands such as the DKNY pure, active, underwear, juniors, kids and baby were introduced to complete the roster, to the delight to the consumers who want to have that New York street smart look. This later resulted to over 70 store outlets located all over the world, with DKNY enjoying premier spots in fashion's cream of the crop. In 2001, she further extended her product line to include the DKNY Life, which primarily accents the modern home by offering styling beddings and accessories, along with cashmere throws and even candles.
All throughout her fashion career, Karan's colleagues and peers have been honored with various accolades. One of the most noteworthy of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which awarded her six times, quite an exceptional feat. In the effort to give something back to the industry that have continually embraced her, Karan spends significant time providing lectures and critics to her alma mater at Parson's School of Design. Her company is also quite active in participating in numerous charity works, mainly supporting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
The designer also believes in maintaining an open dialogue with her loyal clientele and regularly publishes bi-annual magazines and style-related books, where the designer will be able to speak directly to her customer. Such dedication and fervor have never gone unnoticed, and a lot of people have truly acknowledge the great amount of passion the artist puts in all her designs as well as in various fields she dabbles in.
