Although he was not able to get formal training in fashion designing, he was able to work at Brooks Brothers as a salesman, which later led him to create the Polo brand, initially selling neckties. When he finally found a financial backer to help him start his business, he bought the Polo brand and officially launched it as the Ralph Lauren Polo label that became his springboard to creating a billion-dollar fashion empire practically from scratch.
