Throughout the years, the designer has been known to create vibrantly bold designs that consistently challenged the very boundaries of the industry. Using distinctive cuts, unconventional materials, vibrant prints, fashion aficionados wait in bated breath as what this creative genius would think of next in presenting yet another magnificent collection. It didn't came as a surprise that Versace was honored with numerous citations and awards throughout his years in the business, including the highly prestigious Cutty Sark Award, which dubbed his as the “most creative and highly innovative designer in the world”.
Needless to say, the Gianni Versace women's collection have been a certified hit not just in Europe, but as well as in the United States and some areas in Asia. He was looked up to with such awe and reverence among many top designers, fashion critics and of course the consumer market, where he build a large, loyal clientele throughout his years of operation. However, horrible news racked the world when the creative genius met his untimely death on July 15, 1997 when he was murdered right in his Miami Florida home. For months, the fashion world grieved at the loss of one of the most legendary figures in the industry that has greatly contributed in elevating the art into higher plane.
With his passing, his sister Donatella Versace, who worked as the former vice president stepped in as the creative director of the Versace Empire and his brother Santo took the CEO position. Although the world will be forever aggrieved with the loss of Gianni Versace, his legacy lives on in many of the products that the company offers. Today, the fashion house is still a force to be reckoned with featuring several product lines under several different labels under the Versace group: Versus, Gianni Versace Couture Versace Collection, Versace Ceramic Designs and Versace Sport. Aside from the clothing and luxury lines, the company also owns the Palazzo Versace, one of the high-end hotels that operate in Gold Coast, Australia.
As it appears, fashion is definitely in the Versace blood since Donatella was not only able to sustain her brother's success in the industry, she was also able to steer away from the seemingly huge shadow of her brother, in view of the fact that Gianni has been respectfully regarded as a fashion legend, no less. A few years ago, under Donatella's creative helm, the fashion world was taken by storm with the introduction of the Strong and independent woman –inspired clothing line collection. It features bold cuts that are distinctively Versace but at the same time provides a hint of sexiness, fierce femininity and corporate chic.
Up until now, the Versace brand enjoys patronage not only among discerning consumers but also a long list of A-list celebrities such as Madonna, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Demi Moore and Halle Berry. This is truly one of inspiring stories in the fashion industry that showcases the unprecedented bond of familial ties that flourished and nurtured by the strong passion for fashion.
